That's right readers, tomorrow night MTV will air the bare minimum it needs to in order to keep its Music Television namesake. That's when we will see actual music videos on television, if only for a few hours. If you are like Brendan Spaar and remember a time when all that MTV aired were music videos then you will want to tune in to relive the past. Stephen Colbert has already made it rather public that the surprise guest of the night will be Daft Punk (so try to act surprised!). TMZ also showed Joey Fatone (the Fat One) landing in New York last night so an NSYNC reunion may be in the works too. We already know that Justin Timberlake will be accepting an award for Best Musician that very rarely produces music anymore. What other surprises should we look forward to? Macelmore will be showing off his Thrift Shop clothes and Robin Thick will be answering why his song of the summer is so catchy. Rapper Chris Brown was none too happy last night when he went on a Twitter rant about the community service hours that the court assigned him. Brown, as Brendan Spaar remembers, is on probation for beating singer Rhianna's face in back in 2009 shortly before the Grammy's. As a result, he was sentenced to community service and 5 years of probation. It appears that no one explained to CB what probation was all about. You are not to be arrested or charged with any crime while you are on probation. Unfortunately for Brown, he was charged with a hit-and-run accident, violating his probation, and sentencing Brown to an additional 1,000 hours of community service. This all leads to the twitter rant. Brown went on Twitter Thursday night and posted such gems as "Nigga done 6 months community service wit (sic) police and the DA racist ass crying to the system that I didn't do it. Fuck the SYSTEM!" Chris Brown will not be scoring any points with police, law enforcement, or English majors with his latest Twitter rants. At least now he has something new to rap about. Not even an order of protection could keep John M. Dubis away from singer and media star Jennifer Lopez. This man was arrested and charged with staying in J-Lo's pool house for over a week! Mr. Dubis was arraigned Aug. 9 on two felonies, second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal contempt, and two misdemeanors, fourth-degree stalking and possession of burglar tools. Brendan Spaar has learned that his next court date is Aug. 28. The suspect was being held in Suffolk County jail on a $100,000 bail, or bond as some people refer to it as. Jennifer Lopez's home is an eight-bedroom, 7 1/2-bath home on a private cul-de-sac. That is quite a nice place for Jenny From the Block.
Did anyone watch the Grammy Awards last night? Brendan Spaar is happy to see that Alternative music is winning awards. Artists like Justin Bieber, Rhianna, and Katy Perry were shut out last night. There were also some great musical performances. If you missed the Lumineers or Jack White, you should check them out on YouTube. All in all it was a boring affair outside of a few performances. LL Cool J's colaboration at the end was interesting but his hosting was lack luster. There also weren't as many "Grammy moments" as we were told to expect. It was worth watching but if you missed it, you didn't miss much. One person that seemed to be enjoying themselves was Kelly Clarkson. Check out the photo where she phobombs Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. Source: http://pix11.com/2013/02/11/kelly-clarksons-epic-photobomb-ellen-stars-katy-down-the-grammy-moments-you-missed/
You may have heard that Chris Brown has anger issues. There was the whole Rhianna incident a few years ago and now he is accused of brawling with Grammy nominated singer Frank Ocean over a parking spot in Hollywood. L.A. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Steve Whitmore says that his department is currently investigating the incident and will determine whether either singer should be arrested. Brendan Spaar thinks that it is a little excessive to fight someone over a parking spot. This takes road rage to a whole new level. It would appear that Chris Brown gets a little angry when Grammy season rolls around. Source: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/01/29/frank-ocean-wants-chris-brown-prosecuted-police-say/
Another judge is out on the X-Factor. This time it's Britney Spears joining Los Angeles (L.A.) Reid. While L.A. got to go quietly into the night, Britney isn't being awarded the same luxury. The rumor mill has been churning away all weekend with speculation over why she is not returning next season. Some Britney fans are saying that she was only ever planning on staying on the show for one season (oh and "leave Britney alone!!!!!") while others including Brendan Spaar believe that the producers wanted a crazy Britney who would shave her head and hit people with an umbrella. When the top brass at X Factor got a rather reserved and "normal" Britney, they decided she wasn't dramatic enough to command the $9 million salary they were paying her and opted not to renew her contract. Now there is another rumor out there that Britney demanded a $3 million raise to return to the show. The only thing certain about this whole mess is that Simon Cowell needs to start looking for a guy and girl to replace his judges. I hear Cee Lo Green and Christina Agulara are available! It's official. Los Angeles Reid (ok...L.A. Reid), the man responsible for breaking Justin Beiber, is leaving Simon Cowell's X-Factor show to spend more time with his family. Does anyone other than Brendan Spaar think that this is a cop out? The show has had terrible ratings this year. Re-runs of the Big Bang Theory have beaten it. The only original cast member (besides Mr. Cowell who isn't going anywhere) is Reid. It is surprising that Reid didn't leave the show with Paula Abdul and Nichole Scherzinger. Maybe it was to show solidaridy in that the show wasn't a complete failure. After all, the host and two judges bit the dust. If Simon was the only survivor it would show total failure, something that Simon Cowell is not used to. Well tonight's the night. If you haven't already heard, there is a huge Hurricane Sandy benefit concert tonight that is being hyped to be larger than the Live-8 concert a few years back. The concert, which starts tonight at 7:30pm ET will feature the likes of Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who and Paul McCartney. Brendan Spaar has heard a rumor that Paul McCartney will take the stage and sing a Nirvana song with Dave Grohl on drums. This will be a little weird because McCartney's voice is not suited for Nirvana songs. The song he will choose will probably be a mellow song like About a Girl, The Man Who Sold The World, or Lithium but wouldn't it be great if he got up there and sang Smells Like Teen Spirit or Rape me? One things certain, this will be a great concert that you won't want to miss. Source: http://www.121212concert.org/
It must be a slow news week here in the United States because apparently the Psy story is all over TV. Turns out back in 2002 the up and coming rapper recorded a song with Korean Heavy Metal Band (yes there is such a thing!) N.E.X.T. called Dear American in which he called on the killing of "Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives." Why would Psy have such harsh words for is future audience? Well Brendan Spaar investigated and found that two South Korean middle school girls were killed by American troops shortly before the song was recorded. Their deaths were the result of a horrible accident but it fueled Anti American sentiment at the time. Apparently it is really good for your career if you bash America over in South Korea so Psy may have recorded this song for notariety and popularity. Does Psy hate America or is he simply seizing on an opportunity to make up for his limited talent? Look at his latest hit Gangnam Style and decide.

It's that time of year again where the top artists of 2012 are nominated for Grammy awards. These awards are supposed to recognize artistic merit and not put too much emphasis on popularity or album sales. This year, Brendan Spaar feels that was achieved by a few "surprise" snubs. One Direction, Psy, Justin Bieber and the Wanted did not receive Grammy nominations and the internet is in a tizzy! None of these artists have done anything revolutionary in 2012. Bieber, One Direction, and The Wanted crank out manufactured pop songs like water. Psy took the world by storm because his song was so outragous that we had to see and hear it for shock value. Do any of these artists deserve an award for the work that they did? Probably not. To show that they didn't snub all manufactured pop artists and internet sensations, the Recording Industry nominated Carly Rae Jepsen for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. This high school girl may not have been discovered if Bieber hadn't tweeted out her song to his millions of followers. Another weird category this year is Alternative Music. Somehow Gotye's Making Mirrors album ended up on the list of Best Alternative Albums of 2012. Sure Gotye is a talented artist but does he really belong in an Altermative Music category?
