For as long as Brendan Spaar can remember, new music was released on Tuesday. Each week he would log on to his favorite music website and see which artists had released new music. Well earlier this year, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (who knew there was such an organization!) decided to change the release date world wide to Fridays so that consumers could buy the new music over the weekend. In the UK new music was released on Mondays and in the United States it dropped the following day. Now there is a world wide standard which is probably a good thing. Does it really matter which day an artist releases their album? Brendan Spaar would venture to guess that the majority of music listeners today listen to singles off of Spotify and Pandora. He may be the only one left that actually anticipates a new album and listens to it in its entirety. Remember those hidden tracks at the end of a CD? Godsmack's hit song Voodoo was actually a track that appeared after two full minutes of silence following the final track on the album. If you didn't sit through the silence and listened to the entire album you would have NEVER have even heard this now popular song. Weird Al Yankovic may have the right idea. Instead of releasing anymore albums, he has vowed to release his songs digitally as soon as they are finished and skip the single point of release. The record industry is continuing to insist on a predictable pattern in a world where more and more consumers are listening to music on demand and are not willing to wait. Lady Gaga new album Artpop is sure to impress her fans and in true Gaga fashion she debuted a new dress at the release party. Brendan Spaar is a fan of Lady Gaga. The singer showed off her new album and dress at the Naval Yard in New York. While the album features the hit song Applause, the dress featured six propellers that actually worked! Gaga was reportedly flying around the large warehouse that the party was being held in. If anyone was wondering if Lady Gaga could top her previous outfits, wonder no more. Now the only question is what will she think of next? Source: http://www.starpulse.com/news/Victor_Smith/2013/11/11/lady_gaga_debuts_her_new_flying_dress_
It is very rare to see a celebrity spend more than a few hours in jail. Even rarer is seeing a celebrity be arrested and sent to prison for more than 30 days. Grammy award winning singer Lauren Hill was arrested and charged with failing to pay her taxes. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 months in federal prison back in July. Well now Brendan Spaar has learned that she has been released and is now subject to one year probation with three months under house arrest. The underlying crime was failure to pay taxes on 1.8 million dollars of income earned from 2005 - 2007. If she had a good accountant she would have probably only had to pay about 10 percent of that which comes to under $200,000. I know that sounds like a lot but those of us who are not celebrities end up paying double that percentage. May this serve as a lesson to all of you. Uncle Sam is going to get your money, even if you are one of the 1%. Here's to hoping that Lauren Hill releases another album and tours to support it. How many of you watched the NFL Super Bowl halftime show last year? If you, like Brendan Spaar, did then you would have seen M.I.A. give the middle finger (or flip the bird) at a camera during the live performance. Some have said this is just as bad as Justin Timberlake and the wardrobe malfunction of super bowl past. The NFL is suing M.I.A. for $1.5 million dollars alleging that she broke her contract by tarnishing the leagues good image and reputation. M.I.A. believes that the dancers that Madonna hired for her show were dancing in a sexually provacative manner and were not fined. The singer asks in a YouTube video why her finger is worse than a bunch of high school girls striking a sexually provacative pose. Her lawyer, Howard King, is encouraging fans to send the NFL examples of how its players, coaches, and staff have damaged or destroyed the NFL's good image. Does anyone remember Michael Vick or Aaron Hernandez? They may have done more damage to the image than a simple gesture of a finger ever could. Pop star Selena Gomez was all set to play Russia when she found out this week that her visa request has been denied. I guess VISA is everywhere you want to be as long as you don't want to be in Russia. Brendan Spaar just made a joke. Selena Gomez is known for supporting gay rights leading some to believe that Russian authorities have banned her from the country under their new contraversial law banning "propaganda on nontraditional sexual relationships." John Becker wrote this on the LGBTQ (wtf is Q??) blog Bilerico.com: "The Russian government is clearly on edge and aware of the bruising its reputation has taken in the wake of their anti-LGBT crackdown." One thing the Westboro Baptist Church protesters count on is that the people that they are protesting will simply ignore them. Vince Gill did no such thing. Instead, the country music singer walked outside of a venue in Kansas City Missouri and confronted several protesters saying "I wanted to see what hate looked like." The protesters are upset that Vince Gill got remarried to Amy Grant after his divorce. One member of the church said that they had a problem with Vince being married to another man's wife. Brendan Spaar does not understand the problem with divorce. While there may be no reasoning with the Westboro Baptist Church, at least Vince Gill took a stand and confronted them.
With all the news surrounding the weird dance that Miley Cyrus was doing during the MTV VMAs, Brendan Spaar has to ask the question that is on everyone's mind: What is twerking?? Apparently ABC News found a Phd Professor of exercise (I guess you really can get a graduate degree in football) Michelle Olson who explained that twerking is "a combination movement involving a deep squat and a pelvic tilt." The good doctor did caution against over-twerking saying that it "might throw out the lower back or make the knees creak." One thing that this article does not explain is where the dance came from. The dance actually originated in New Orleans Louisiana back in 1993, before Miley was even born! Source: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2013/08/27/twerking-a-scientific-explanation/
